Diesel,
length 77.5 feet, beam 15.5 feet, draft 7.5 feet. Built in 1929 in
Portland, Oregon for Pacific and Alaska service. In service 1929-1946.
Named for Ferdinand Westdahl (1843-1919), served with the Coast and
Geodetic Survey from 1867 until his death in 1919. He spent his career
working on the West Coast, Alaska, and the Philippine Islands and
served on many of the principal ships to operate in the Pacific Ocean.
