Launch HELIANTHUS. Note antenna wire - outfitted for radio acoustic ranging.

Gasoline launch, length 64 feet, beam 13.5 feet, draft 4 feet. Built by the U.S. Navy at Bristol, Rhode Island, in 1912. Acquired by the Coast and Geodetic Survey in 1919. Used primarily in Alaska until sold in 1939. In service 1919-1939. Helianthus is the genus to which sunflowers belong.
