Citation
for the Air Medal
RILEY
J. SIPE, K-1000018, Lieutenant Colonel, Air Corps, Army
of the United States. For meritorious achievement in aerial
flight for the period 19 May 1941 to 1 September 1945.
Colonel Sipe pioneered in the surveying of aerial routes
in Alaska which made possible the delivery of aid to the
Aleutians in the early months of the war. The high standards
of accuracy which Colonel Sipe displayed in developing
improved maps and charts and in actual aerial navigation
materially aided the prosecution of the war effort in
Alaska and reflects great credit upon himself and the
military service.
