of Commendation
The
Commander in Chief Pacific and U.S. Pacific Fleet takes
pleasure in commending LIEUTENANT COMMANDER ROBERT A. MARSHALL
UNITED STATES COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY for service set
forth in the following CITATION:

"For meritorious
conduct in the performance of his duties while attached to
the U.S.S. OCEANOGRAPHER from December 1943 to February 1944.
During this period, he conducted a survey of the inner-harbor
and approaches to Cape Torokina, Bougainville, British Solomon
Islands. By his outstanding skill and devotion to duty in
planning, he prepared a navigation chart and provided vitally
important navigational information. Despite hazardous and
difficult operating conditions, he prepared charts of the
Cape Torokina area, thereby contributing materially to the
success of the offensive operations of our forces in that
area. His performance of duty was outstanding and his conduct
was at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of
the United States Naval Service."
