Citation for Bronze Star Medal
The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting
the BRONZE STAR MEDAL to COMMANDER FRED ANDERSON RIDDELL,
UNITED STATES COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY for service as set
forth in the following CITATION: |

"For heroic
service as Administrative and Personnel Officer on the Staff
of Commander Construction Troops, during operations against
enemy Japanese forces in the Ryukyus, from April 11 to August
15, 1945. Expertly carrying out his assignments despite the
constant threat of hostile attack and other hazardous conditions
incident to combat operations, Commander Riddell directed
the preparation, receipt, routing and filing of staff correspondence
and supervised the solution of administrative and personnel
problems for all Naval construction troops engaged in converting
these areas into allied bases. His administrative ability,
courage and devotion to duty throughout this were in keeping
with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service."
Commander
Riddell is authorized to wear the Combat "V".

In the

the Navy the Purple Heart is awarded by the Commander Service
Squadron, South Pacific Force, to:
