SECRETARY OF THE NAVY
WASHINGTON
The President of the United States takes pleasure in awarding
the BRONZE STAR MEDAL to COMMANDER EMMETT HUGH SHERIDAN
UNITED STATES COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY for service set
forth in the following CITATION:
"For
meritorious achievement as Survey Officer of the THIRD
Corps Artillery, THIRD Amphibious Corps in action against
enemy Japanese forces on Okinawa Shima, Ryukyu Islands,
from April 1 to June 22, 1945. Landing on L-Day and establishing
initial artillery survey control, Commander Sheridan frequently
conducted survey operations on the front lines in extremely
hazardous positions in order to establish and maintain
accurate survey control points for both division and corps
artillery units, thereby enabling the artillery to deliver
accurate and effective fire against the enemy, materially
aiding in the seizure of the island. His professional
skill and untiring devotion to duty were important factors
in the successful completion of the operations."
Commander
Sheridan is authorized to wear the Combat "V".
