Commander
John T. Watkins,
retired, died on October 29, 1936. Born in Alexandria, Virginia,
March 9, 1871, he was a graduate in civil engineering at the
University of Virginia, and entered the service of the Survey
December 10, 1895, retiring March 21, 1921. Possessing talents
and versatility to an unusual degree, he performed a wide variety
of duties in both office and field. He enlisted in the Army
during the Spanish-American War and held the rank of Lieutenant
Commander in the Navy during the World War. He was notable for
loyalty and devotion to the Survey and his many friends in the
service.
