Lieutenant
(junior grade) George B. Wharton, Jr.,
died in an automobile accident on November 5, 1967, in Snohomish
County, Washington. A 1964 graduate of Oberlin College,
Lieutenant Wharton earned a masters degree in geology at the
University of Alaska in 1966, and joined the ESSA commissioned
corps on September 19, 1966. He was assigned to the SURVEYOR
in Seattle in December. Lieutenant Wharton was born in Washington,
D.C. on September 14, 1941. He is survived by his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. George B. Wharton, Sr., of Hedgesville, West Virginia,
and two sisters.
