Commander Harry A. Seran retired
at his own request on March 31, 1938, after 30 years of outstanding
service. Born in New Philadelphia, Ohio, January 28, 1887, he
entered the Bureau's service July 1, 1907, and has held numerous
positions in the Washington office and the field. His field work
included duties on various ships and at the time of his retirement
he was commanding officer of the survey Ship OCEANOGRAPHER. His
office assignments included service as director of coast surveys
at Manila, chief of the section of vessels and equipment and assistant
chief of the Division of Hydrography and Topography.
