Captain Jack Senior, who retired in
1952, died in California on August 21, 1974. He had resided in
Santa Ana, California since March of this year, and in El Cajon
since 1970.
Captain Senior joined the Coast and Geodetic Survey in 1914
as a Deck Officer after having attended College of City of New
York and Cornell University. He had served in the field on 17
ship assignments including Alaska, Hawaii, and the Philippines
between 1914 and 1938; and on geodetic operation in Alaska and
Montana. He had served for over 8 years as Chief of the Washington
Office Section of Vessels and Equipment. He was Supervisor of
the Coast and Geodetic Survey Northwest District at Seattle
prior to his retirement. Captain Senior had received the Coast
and Geodetic Survey Defense Service Ribbon and held a marine
license as Master of Steam Vessels, Unlimited.
