
Lieutenant
James N. Jones
died at Walter Reed General Hospital, Washington, D.C., on August
14, 1941. He was born in Bristol, Tennessee, August 19, 1905,
where he attended the schools of that city and Lexington, Virginia,
graduating from the Virginia Military Institute with the degree
of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, in 1927. On October
27, 1927, he was appointed deck officer in this Bureau.
His assignments included ship duty on all coasts of the United
States and Alaska, together with 2 years' duty on air photo
compilation. At the time of his death he was on temporary duty
with the First Field Artillery Observation Battalion, U.S. Army,
in connection with the development of survey procedures in that
organization.
On all his assignments his record was excellent. His personality
was outstanding and his good humor and congenial disposition
will long be remembered by many friends.
He is survived by his widow and two sons Jerry C. and James
E. Jones.
