
Captain
Franklin R. Gossett
passed away on November 19, 1966, in Memphis, Tennessee. A native
of Memphis, he entered on duty with the Coast and Geodetic Survey
in 1927 after graduating from the University of Tennessee. Captain
and Mrs. Gossett, the former Marie Kelly, moved back to Memphis
following his retirement on July 1, 1964.
Captain Gossett was transferred to the Navy by Executive Order
in 1942, and returned to the Coast and Geodetic Survey in 1945.
He was the author of the Manual of Geodetic Triangulation, and
was Chief of the Geodesy Division for the 3 years prior to retiring.
He is survived by Mrs. Gossett, of Memphis, and a son, Dr. Charles
Robert Gossett, of Oxon Hill, Maryland, a nuclear physicist
with the Naval Research Laboratory.
