The
sky in its many moods, tornadoes, hurricanes, and storms at sea
have inspired artists since time immemorial. Many of the images below
were found in Nineteenth Century and early Twentieth Century popular
meteorological works that were produced before the advent of easily
operated and transported cameras. These images both instructed the
curious layman and inspired generations of budding meteorologists.
Step into an earlier era to learn of the terrors and delights of our
atmosphere.
